Pilot Network - FAQ

  • What is the NorCal Aerial Image Pilot Network?

The Pilot Network connects certified drone pilots with paid drone jobs and overflow leads that NorCal Aerial Image can’t fulfill. We refer work to qualified pilots in our network based on location, availability, and reliability.

  • Who can join the Pilot Network?

FAA Part 107-certified drone pilots with professional gear, proof of insurance, and experience capturing high-quality drone imagery or video are welcome to apply. Although most of our work is in Northern California, we do get assignments outside of our area.

  • Is drone insurance required?

Yes. All pilots must carry current drone liability insurance and provide proof before receiving job opportunities.

  • How does payment work?

Jobs are offered in two formats:

Paid Leads – You take the client and handle everything.

Shoot & Send – You capture raw drone footage or photos and send them to us for delivery and/or editing.
Rates vary based on project type, typically ranging from $100 to $500+ per job.

  • What types of drone jobs do you offer?

    We refer drone work in:

    Real estate photography and aerials

    Construction progress shots

    Roof inspections

    2D mapping

    Business promo video flyovers
You’ll only be offered jobs that match your equipment and skill set.

  • How will I be contacted about a job?

We’ll reach out by email or phone when a project in your service area comes in. Pilots who respond quickly and deliver reliably get priority on future work.

  • What’s the turnaround time for submitting footage?

Most jobs require a 48-hour turnaround for raw media. Faster delivery helps us maintain client satisfaction and increases your chances of being offered more work.

  • How do I submit footage?

All raw files should be delivered via Dropbox, Google Drive, or a platform we provide. Each job will include folder naming instructions and delivery guidelines.

  • Can I use the footage in my portfolio?

In most cases, no. Many of our clients have exclusive licensing needs. You must request permission before sharing any project content publicly.

  • What kind of drone equipment do I need?

Minimum accepted: DJI Mini 3 Pro or better.
Preferred for mapping and commercial work: Mavic 3 Pro, Phantom 4 Pro, or Matrice series. You must be able to deliver sharp, clean, properly exposed media.

  • Do I have to edit the footage?

No. Most jobs only require clean, well-exposed raw footage. In some cases, editing may be requested for an additional fee. Editing needs are determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • How do I apply to join the Pilot Network?

Apply through our Pilot Network Application Page.

Submit your FAA license, insurance proof, coverage area, and portfolio samples. We’ll review and follow up with next steps.
